The Bahamas National Trust (BNT) is now partnered with Baha Mar resort to assist in environmental conservation after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Wednesday.
The signing took place at Baha Mar’s convention center with stakeholders who committed to partnering to increase environmental awareness through education.
As Baha Mar boasts of a number of sprawling resorts and the largest casino property in the region, President Graeme Davis said, it is critical that a property of its size is cognizant of its impact on the environment.
“We feel very strongly about making a positive impact to minimize our impact on the environment. We want to do studies with our scientist on the flamingoes and coral reefs and do more to promote ecological sensitivity,” he said.
Davis also announced that the resort will adopt the Harrold and Wilson Ponds, located in South Central New Providence, which provides a natural wetland habitat for more than 100 bird species.
Additionally, Davis said the resort is looking forward to implementing programs to heighten awareness among visitors.
“When we look at the queen conch so many of our guests are looking for a culinary experience and it’s only a matter of time before that resource is depleted… that’s just a simple aspect of what tourism can do that will impact the environment,” Davis said.
Meanwhile BNT’s Council President Janet Johnson said, the organization which is recognized around the world, is pleased to partner with Baha Mar.
