Emergency Support Function groupings remain on full alert

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Cabinet Office yesterday announced the closure of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

NEMA’s headquarters, located on Gladstone Road and NEMA’s Way, was closed for deep cleaning and sanitizing yesterday.

In a statement, the Cabinet Office advised the building will reopen on Monday, October 19.

“The public is advised that the following numbers are available for emergency purposes: 809-2919 or 376-2042,” the statement read.

“Messages can also be sent via inbox to: NEMA-Bahamas Facebook page and email address: nema@bahamas.gov.bs.

“As we are still in the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season, NEMA and its Emergency Support Function groupings remain on full alert to respond to any storm or disaster.”

It added: “NEMA apologizes for any inconvenience caused.”
