National Flag Day observed ahead of 51st Anniversary of Independence

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas Independence Secretariat paused to observe National Flag Day today as part of its list of activities scheduled to commemorate the country’s 51st anniversary of independence.

This year’s independence celebrations are themed, “One People: United in Love and Service.”

Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Governor General and National Independence Secretariat Jack Thompson said that the annual commemoration of Flag Day is held to promote a sense of national pride among Bahamians.

Government General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas Her Excellency Cynthia Pratt attended the national observance held at One Montage Place on Friday morning.

As the nation nears the 51st anniversary of independence the Independence Secretariat has a number of events planned which include National Buy Bahamian Day, the Beat Retreat Experience, a National Day of Prayer and an Ecumenical Service and Cultural Show.
