NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Nassau & Paradise Island Promotion Board (NPIPB) has announced the first recipients of the Nassau & Paradise Island Promotion Board Scholarships, an initiative in partnership with The Lyford Cay Foundation.
The inaugural recipients are:
- Quinn Brown, pursuing a Master of Arts in Qualitative Management in Business Administration with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Fredericton, Canada.
- Mia Moss, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Baking & Pastry Arts at Johnson & Wales University’s Providence Campus, USA.
This scholarship program aims to foster the education and professional development of young Bahamians in the tourism and hospitality industry, with the NPIPB pledging $250,000 over five years to support this effort.
Joy Jibrilu, CEO of the Nassau & Paradise Island Promotion Board, expressed her excitement about the initiative. She said: “We are thrilled to award the Nassau & Paradise Island Promotion Board Scholarships to these two outstanding scholars. Each recipient has demonstrated an admirable dedication to their studies, and we are honored to present them with a scholarship in partnership with The Lyford Cay Foundation. It is only fitting that on World Tourism Day we make these announcements, as these recipients symbolize the brightest and best of us all and speak to the future and sustainability of tourism in The Bahamas.”
Dr. Nicola Virgill-Rolle, Executive Director of The Lyford Cay Foundation, echoed this sentiment: “Innovative leadership in tourism is key to the continued progress of The Bahamas. That’s why we are excited about the Nassau & Paradise Island Promotion Board Award for undergraduate or graduate tourism leadership programs. This scholarship represents a historic partnership with NPIPB, and we fully recognize the importance of equipping leaders in our most important economic engine with the tools to make informed decisions, whether in prosperous times or unforeseen crises. Access to higher education combined with internships and mentoring will prepare Bahamians for top posts in tourism and hospitality.”
The Lyford Cay Foundation, the nation’s largest private scholarship funder, has invested over $50 million in Bahamian students and nonprofits since 1969.
This partnership with the NPIPB marks the first time the foundation has specifically focused on tourism management, vision, and leadership.
