NAD to address taxi operators’ concerns over LPIA commercial lane management

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) has acknowledged concerns raised by transportation operators regarding the commercial lane at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA), stating that it will collaborate with its partners to address these issues effectively.

On Thursday, nearly one hundred taxi drivers voiced complaints to Eyewitness News, alleging that Road Traffic Workers at LPIA have been unfairly directing potential passengers towards Livery Driver services instead of taxis. Leslie Cartwright, Chair of LPIA Taxi Drivers, emphasized that this practice severely impacts taxi drivers’ livelihoods. Cartwright noted that Livery Services are significantly more expensive than taxis, leading tourists to mistakenly believe they are hiring a taxi.

In response, NAD issued a statement: “We are aware of concerns raised by transportation operators regarding the commercial lane at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA). As airport managers, we are committed to ensuring the safety, security, and efficient operation of all airport services. The well-being of our valued team members is also paramount, and their safety and security remain a top priority for NAD.”

The statement continued: “We take these matters seriously and will work closely with our partners at the Road Traffic Department (RTD), the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) airport traffic division, and the Airport Authority to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to managing the commercial lane at LPIA. Transportation operators at LPIA are encouraged to adhere to existing airport policies and procedures and are reminded to conduct themselves respectfully, even as they seek policy adjustments.”
