A 15-year-old girl born to a Haitian mother may lose her life due to her ineligibility to receive medical treatment as a result of her irregular citizenship status, the mother said Tuesday.

Taranique Thurston was diagnosed with a brain cyst last year. However, due to the fact that she is allegedly undocumented, Thurston has been unable to travel, which has reportedly hindered her from accessing life-saving medical treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida.

Thurston’s mother Jeanette Cady expressed her disgust and disdain over the situation, which she said is “really wrong”. Meantime, the teen made her own appeal to the government to help her get to the United States (US) for treatment.
