NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) customers in eastern and parts of western New Providence were left without power yesterday as the company experienced challenges with a substation.
In a statement around 11:00 a.m., BPL reported outages in the Cable Beach area and said customers in Skyline Lakes, Gladstone Road and Baha Mar were impacted.
The cause of the outage, however, was not made clear.
The power provider also reported power loss at its Wulff Road substation in a subsequent statement.
It advised that customers of Blair, Bernard Road, Kemp Road, Wulff Road East, Marathon Road, Jerome Avenue and Village Road were impacted.
Around noon, BPL said power had been restored to impacted customers, but several hours later that company advised that electricity supply was lost once again at the Wulff Road substation.
Power to impacted customers was reportedly restored around 2:30 p.m., according to the power provider.
In recent weeks, there have been persistent outages in pockets of New Providence as the power provider carried out load shedding due to challenges related to certain substations.
Last Tuesday, BPL began load shedding around 11:00 a.m.
Some customers, namely those in Wulff Road, Kemp Road, Village Road and Marathon were left without power for nearly six hours.
Power was fully restored shortly before 5:00 p.m.
