Ministry monitoring projected path of Hurricane Michael

As the category 4 Hurricane Michael lashed the Florida panhandle on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised the general public that they were closely monitoring the projected path of the Hurricane.

A statement released from the ministry yesterday outlined that they are in contact with The Bahamas’ Consulates in Atlanta and Miami as it relates to the safety of Bahamians residing in Georgia and Florida.

“Bahamians have been advised to follow all instructions and advisories issued by Federal, State and Local Officials,” the statement read.

“Further, we have asked persons to comply with orders for mandatory evacuation (where applicable). The Ministry will endeavour to inform the general public of new developments relating to this issue as deemed necessary.”

Meanwhile, the eye of Hurricane Michael made landfall near Mexico Beach, Florida, just before 1:00 p.m. yesterday, moving at 15 miles an hour. The storm is expected to cross the Carolinas today before moving off the Mid-Atlantic coast on Friday.
