NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The University of The Bahamas Mingoes lost to the PJ Stingers early in the season and they weren’t going to let that happen again.
Behind 27 points from Kimsy Sylvestre the Mingoes defeated the Stingers 92-86 in a game that was tied 14 times and had 10 lead changes.
Sylvester lead four Mingoes in double figures. Antwan Bevans scored 20 points; Ramon Dames had 17 points to go along with 12 rebounds and 8 assists; and Tyrone Sands Jr had 13 points.
“I think the ball movement was important for us,” Assistant Head Coach Lavar Johnson said. “When we started moving the ball our players move the same time I think it’s hard for teams to defended us when we get that going.”
Abel Joseph led The Stingers with 27 points and 7 assists. Torrington Cox had 21 and Eugene Bain had 16 points as well in the loss. Salathiel Dean lead all players with 13 rebounds.
The Stingers beat The Mingoes 87-69 on January 7, 2019.
Johnson said he did not see the game as a statement win after the team was riding a three-game losing streak before this three-game winning streak. “People may call a statement win but every we game come out to win,” he said.
The Mingoes next play The Shockers 8:30 p.m. Monday at The A.F. Adderley gym.
