Miller-Uibo wins 200 in Birmingham

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- Shaunae Miller-Uibo remains undefeated in 2019.

The Olympic quarter-mile star took on a tough field on Sunday in the women’s 200 meters (m) at the Birmingham Diamond League meeting and came away with a ninth consecutive win in 22.24 seconds. Yesterday’s race was the closest that Miller-Uibo has been in quite some time. She had to come from behind with about 20m to go after trailing both Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith for the majority of the race. Asher-Smith crossed the line second in 22.36 seconds, while Fraser-Pryce was third in 22.50 seconds.

Miller-Uibo, who hasn’t lost since 2017 at the Muller Grand Prix, said that she was looking forward to a better showing despite winning

“The race didn’t go to plan,” she said. “My start was horrible and I had to rely on that 400m strength to get through. I was feeling good prior to the race. Before the race, we had an idea of how we wanted the race to go and it didn’t go as planned so I’m happy for the win and ready to move on to the next.”
