Men’s volleyball team looking to bounce back at CAZOVA

Like The Bahamas women’s national volleyball team, the men’s team is also preparing to travel to compete next weekend in Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Senior Championships.

Longtime national team member Byron Ferguson said that although the team is still very young, the experience of playing international competition last year will be a great help.

The men’s edition of the CAZOVA tournament takes place August 4-11 in Suriname.

“I always try to help us to stay focused and always try to stress the importance of limiting mistakes,” Ferguson said.

“In the game of volleyball, small mistakes can really cost you. We’re only going to 25, so small mistakes can really kill you. If we limit our errors, we can win most of our games.

“We won the Caribbean championships back in 2012 and we have been very competitive ever since. Last year we fell off a little bit, but we had a lot of young players without true international experience. But fortunately, those younger guys now have some more experience, so, we are hoping we can get back to our winning ways.”

CAZOVA was founded in August 1994 in Nassau, Bahamas, as a non-profit organization.

The founding National Federations of CAZOVA are The Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, Netherland Antilles, Trinidad and Tobago and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
