Driver listed in stable condition in hospital
NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Police shot a man who allegedly drove towards them in a parking lot outside their station.
Superintendent Shanta Knowles said officers inside the Carmichael Road Police Station heard a crashing sound outside shortly after 1am.
When they went outside, the officers saw a burgundy Ford Explorer had crashed into another vehicle in the parking lot.
The other vehicle was not identified.
Knowles said when the officers attempted to assist the driver, he accelerated the Explorer in their direction in an alleged attempt to hit them.
“The officers being in fear for his life, fired his service weapon in the direction of the male who sped away,” she said.
“A shortly time later, the vehicle crashed into a light pole on Carmichael Road near Sir. Milo Butler Highway.”
When authorities responded to the crash, it was discovered the man had been shot.
He was transported to hospital, and is in stable condition, according to Knowles.
