A man believed to be in his mid-30s is dead after he was hit by a vehicle off Carmichael Road, just east of Boatswain Hill late Monday evening in the country’s latest traffic fatality, investigator said.

Traffic police said the accident happened at approximately 9:37 p.m.

Reports are that a 2012 Mercedes heading east, struck a pedestrian, at which time, police officers and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded.

Just 30 minutes later, while EMS was treating the young man, a 2000 Ford Expedition, also traveling east, ran into the ambulance but not before hitting one of the police officers investigating the initial traffic accident.

The young man in the ambulance, however, succumbed to his injuries.

Police said both drivers remained on scene and are assisting with the investigation.

According to police, none of the drivers or EMS personnel received any injuries, however, police said they will continue to canvass the area for witnesses.

Investigators said they are actively investigating this accident.
