Man arraigned for armed robbery, attempted murder

Akeem Johnson, 24, was charged with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of attempted murder in the Magistrates court on Monday.

It is alleged that Johnson, armed with an offensive instrument, stole a Michael Kors purse containing some $16,000 and stealing a black Samsung phone worth some $950 and $50 cash.

Johnson was also charged with the attempted murder of two police constables.

He was not asked to plead and was denied bail. He was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Corrections (BDOC) until his trial, which is set for September 12 and 20 respectively.

In other court news, Jamaican nationals Roger Hansen, 47, and Sophia Sands, 46, on Monday were arraigned in connection with the unlawful treatment of an 11-year-old girl.

The couple was granted bail at $2,500 each under the condition that neither parties make contact with the child involved.

Due to the circumstances of the case, Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt said, a third party should be designated to facilitate visitation.

The case is set to resume on June 19.
