Major to host boxing card dedicated to Sturrup

Now that he’s retired from the sport, Meacher Major said he is now focused on the development of boxing in the country.

The former regional middle weight champ said he plans to kick off his initiative to revamp the sport by organizing his own boxing show in the coming months.

The first annual Frederick Sturrup boxing card will be held on March 16, 2019 in Freeport, Grand Bahama. The event is being organized by the Pan American Caribbean Boxing Organization (PACBO), in conjunction with Major Pain Promotions and Entertainment.

“I am motivated as much I was, when I got the opportunity to fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Caribbean lightweight title,” Major said. “I am finally able to concentrate on the future of boxing in The Bahamas. Under the PACBO banner, as director of this region, I can do a lot more for the development program now that I am retired.

Sturrup is the longest appointed member of The Bahamas Boxing Commission. He is also a past member of the Caribbean Boxing Federation and the WBA Caribbean Boxing Federation.
