LET’S SEE IT: Eleuthera Chamber head awaiting detailed plans for “essential” Glass Window Bridge

ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS — Eleuthera Chamber of Commerce President Thomas Sands said yesterday he is looking forward to seeing the government’s detailed plans for the Glass Window Bridge, describing it as “essential” to the island of Eleuthera.

During a presentation to the Eleuthera Business Outlook last week, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Works Desmond Bannister noted that the government is set to embark on the “most ambitious bridge-building project imaginable in The Bahamas” with the construction of a new Glass Window Bridge.

Bannister said the undertaking will begin early next year at a cost of $30 to $35 million. He also noted that out of four options considered, it has been decided the new bridge will be constructed 60 feet west of the existing bridge.

Sands told Eyewitness News: “The Glass Window Bridge is an essential to the island of Eleuthera, its economy and the livelihood of many. Look forward to seeing the detailed plans and gaining a greater appreciation for this solution and the timelines related thereto.”

Bannister told the outlook that development of the bridge will convert the existing site into a special tourist attraction that will create new businesses and jobs, with a Glass Window Bridge Park to be created at the site.
