NASSAU, BAHAMAS — A leading electric vehicle dealer says it has seen its sales increase by a third, and is projecting a busy year ahead with more electric vehicles on the uptake.
Pia Farmer, partner at Easy Car Sales, said, “People are certainly curious about electric vehicles. They are less expensive to own when you consider gas prices. Plugging in an EV at home costs you 65 percent less in fuel and maintenance.”
Speaking at a press conference to preview the upcoming Bahamas Business Outlook, Farmer said, “Our sales locally have increased by a third. That is a significant amount for any business. We expect that trend to continue, and we expect a very busy year. Last year 11 percent of all new car sales were electric vehicles. The Bahamas is on trend with that. It is only going to continue to grow. It is growing very fast.”
“Our team has grown by 30 percent in terms of employment and we are now going to build our headquarters, so we have confidence in the future of electric vehicles. My job is to offer as many models as possible for every lifestyle and budget. This year we have 12 models starting at $30,000 plus VAT,” Farmer added.
Farmer explained that several businesses have been opting for EVs for their fleet, noting that 50 percent of its customers were businesses making the switch to electric.
“Cable Bahamas has 50 vans and they continue every quarter to adopt. I would say 50 percent of our clients are businesses because it positively impacts their bottom line.”
