LCIS “anywhere” Fun Run raises $30K

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Lyford Cay International School’s (LCIS) 18th Annual Fun Run was another tremendous success thanks to the support of LCIS families, friends and local businesses who served as corporate sponsors, the school announced yesterday.

LCIS noted it met its fundraising goal for the event, with $30,000 in donations raised.

School Principal David Mindorff said: “The success of this event has not only shown the enduring generosity of our school community, but also the depth of our connectedness.”

In accordance with physical distancing protocols and to ensure the safety of the community, participants were able to take part in the run anywhere they were on the island or around the world. Unlike in past years, this year’s Fun Run saw parents, teachers, students and friends of the school walking in their own neighborhoods, along the beach or even on their treadmills at home.

Participants sent in many photos and videos of themselves wearing their T-shirts and walking with their families, with submissions coming from as far away as Europe.

Traditionally, the annual Fun Run takes place within the historic community of Lyford Cay where LCIS’s lower school campus is located. Prior to the health restrictions introduced earlier this year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were plans for the run to begin at LCIS’s new upper school campus, located just outside of the community next to St Paul’s Church. Construction of the upper school campus is nearing completion, and students will begin learning in the new, state-of-the-art facilities in January 2021.

All funds raised from the Fun Run will go towards the LCIS Annual Fund, which supports the school’s robust scholarship programme for Bahamian students and allows the school to make improvements to its facilities that benefit all students.

The school is extremely thankful for its sponsors who showed their support during what has been a challenging year.
