NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Lady Ingrid Darling, wife of former Governor General the late Sir Clifford Darling, on Tuesday accepted an invitation by the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre (SRC) to serve as Patron of the 2019 Sandilands Fair.

The last grand SRC Fair was held more than a decade ago in 2007.

The funds from this year’s fair will go towards creating the Geriatric Hospital Recreational Lawn Project and the Therapeutic Gardening Project.

Retired SRC employees including former Hospital Administrator Dorothy Hepburn and Senior TCN Laural Butler have also signed-up to work on this year’s fair, which is set for Saturday, September 28, 2019.

Personally accepting the invitation from Hospital Administrator Mary Lightbourne-Walker, Lady Darling expressed delight about serving.

“I am pleased to once again be a part of this worthy effort to stage the fair this year, raising funds for one of the most important institutions for the care of our country’s elderly and disabled citizens,” Lady Darling said.

She also recalled the days when she served as patron with her husband, the late Sir Clifford Darling.

“My husband served as patron of the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre for many years. He especially enjoyed touring the wards, sharing time with the patients and staff, sometimes entertaining them at our home, but most of all, he looked forward to participating in your annual activities, including the fair”.

Lady Darling said her acceptance to serve as the patron of the Renaissance Fair was also based on her desire to play a role in reducing the stigma that looms over mental health issues in The Bahamas.
