Khandi Gibson Named CIBC Caribbean Unsung Hero for The Bahamas

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Compassion born from tragedy has defined the life’s work of Khandi Gibson, Founder and Director of Families of All Murder Victims (FOAM). That same compassion has now earned her the title of CIBC Caribbean’s 2025 Unsung Hero for The Bahamas.

Selected for her extraordinary leadership and commitment to helping families navigate loss and trauma, Gibson was celebrated during the CIBC Caribbean Unsung Heroes Recognition Dinner held this week. As the first-place honoree, she received a cash award from the bank in recognition of her outstanding community impact.

Gibson said, “Being chosen as CIBC Caribbean’s Unsung Hero is a deeply humbling honor. This recognition is not just for me, but for the entire FOAM family and every person who continues to believe in our mission of making life easier for those in need and hurting among us. It reminds us that even when our work is done quietly and without spotlight, compassion and service never go unnoticed. We are truly grateful to CIBC Caribbean for recognizing the power of community and kindness.”

Gibson established FOAM after personal tragedy. She transformed grief into purpose through advocacy, outreach, and support for hundreds of families affected by violence. Her work continues to serve as a lifeline for those in need of comfort, guidance, and hope.

Gina Gonzalez-Rolle, a longstanding community leader whose service through the Cancer Society, youth mentorship in baseball and golf, and unwavering advocacy has opened doors for countless Bahamians, was named first runner-up and also received a cash award in recognition of her contributions.

Other honorees included Carter Munnings, Brunay Clarke, and Waynisha Saunders. They each exemplify a spirit of leadership and purpose through education, music, and environmental advocacy, respectively.

CIBC Caribbean’s Director of Corporate Banking, Nedra Woodside, praised all nominees for their leadership and impact.

Woodside said, “It is a true honor to celebrate this year’s CIBC Caribbean Unsung Heroes. This program is about shining a light on individuals whose quiet acts of service have created lasting impact in our communities. At CIBC Caribbean, we believe that leadership is often found not in the spotlight, but in everyday actions that uplift others. Each Unsung Hero nominee embodies that truth.”

The CIBC Caribbean Unsung Heroes initiative highlights individuals across the region who exemplify selflessness, leadership, and service. Khandi Gibson will now be considered for the Unsung Hero title at the regional level.
