Jones, Sun advance to WNBA finals

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- Jonquel Jones and the Connecticut Sun are on the way to the 2019 WNBA Finals.

The Sun completed a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday night to earn its first trip to the WNBA finals since 2005. Despite Jones scoring a series-low four points in the win, the Sun led the entire game against a Sparks team that looked lackluster on both sides of the court. Jones also had eight rebounds and four assists.

The Sun were led by Jasmine Thomas, who finished with 29 points, five rebounds and four assists. Courtney Williams added 17 points and Natisha Hiedman scored eight off the bench.

The Sun will play eight the Washington Mystics or Las Vegas Aces in the finals. The Mystics have a 2-1 lead over the Aces.

“We just had a swagger this series,” said Sun coach Curt Miller. As physical and intense as it got, I thought we were more aggressive. Ultimately, we continued to keep moving them. We looked like the energy team. We didn’t want to get back to Staples.”

Jones led the way in terms of physical play for the Sun, pulling down double digit rebounds in each of the first two Jones can expect tough matchups in the post in the next round regardless of which team advances. Elle Delle Donne has been playing well for the Mystics throughout the playoffs and Liz Cambage is the Aces leading scorer.
