Jones scores season high in blowout win
Jonquel Jones.

Jonquel Jones looked a lot like the player that posted 20 double-doubles last season, scoring a season-high 23 points the Connecticut Sun’s 94-68 win over the Washington Mystics.

Jones’ season hasn’t lived up to the expectations most had for the 6’6” forward, who set the Women’s National Basketball Association’s (WNBA) single-season rebounding record last season. Jones was 10-of-12 shooting and reached the 1,000-point club.

She’s come off the bench the majority of Connecticut’s games so far and has yet to string together multiple double-digit scoring games. She’s also failed to register a double-digit rebounding game this season after doing it 23 times last season.

In Tuesday’s game, Connecticut outscored Washington 26-9 in the second quarter to take a 45-35 lead at the break, and the Suns pulled away at the end of the third, closing on a 16-4 run for a 22-point lead.

Jasmine Thomas added 14 points for Connecticut (14-12) and Alyssa Thomas had 12. The Sun shot 57.4 percent from the field, with nine 3-pointers, and hit 7 of 8 free throws.

Elena Delle Donne scored 19 of her 21 points in the first half for Washington (14-11).
