Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources Michael Pintard has promised an increase in penalties for those who choose to illegally fish in Bahamian waters.
The move comes after fishermen called out the government for what they claimed is a lackadaisical approach in the handling of foreign poachers.
Pintard also pointed out that locals are not excluded from penalties as he noted that recent arrests of Bahamian fishermen for illegal activity.
A local fisherman also noted that consumers have a part to play as well.
