Immigration and police arrest illegals in “Operation Fresh Start”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – One Jamaican male and 14 Haitian nationals were arrested during “Operation Fresh Start,” in a joint effort conducted by the Immigration Department and the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on Friday.

The operation covered the areas of Carmichael Road, Nassau Village, South Beach, Hamster Close, Nassau Street, Plantol Street and Island Drive.

The Dept. of Immigration said these operations are intended to remind the general public that they are committed to carrying out the mandates of both agencies to combat illegal migration, immigration offences and criminal offences.

“The Royal Bahamas Police Force has also been successful in making numerous arrests during these operations,” the department said, adding that it will continue its strategic planning efforts and operationalize its resources to establish effective border control management, and to ensure compliance with the immigration laws of The Bahamas.

Meanwhile, the 15 persons arrested were transported to the Detention Center on Carmichael Road for further processing.
