Hurricane Dorian officially a Category 4 storm

Hurricane Dorian strengthened into a Category 4 storm on Friday nigh, according to the National Hurricane Center.

In the time between the center’s 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. advisories, Dorian’s wind speed increased by 10 miles per hour.

The dangerous storm has maximum sustained winds of 130 miles per hour.

The storm is currently moving at 10 mph, with further strengthening expected before impacting the northwestern Bahamas.

A Category 4 storm is the second highest classification. Expect a major hurricane, one that will cause “devastating damage,” according to the hurricane center.

The storm is projected to reach top winds of 140 miles per hour by the time it makes landfall.
