Despite tax payers insistence that the recent increase in hospital fees comes at a bad time, Health Minister Dr. Duane Sands said his ministry’s hands are tied.

In an interview with Eyewitness News Online, Dr. Sands explained that 87 per cent of persons do not pay gazetted fees and the hospital loses over $40 million annually.

He also noted the fees, which have still not taken effect, need to be approved at a ministerial level and vetted to ensure legality before they are imposed.
