Homicide count climbs to 87

Police launched investigations into the country’s 87th homicide following a fatal shooting incident in Pinewood Gardens last night.

Superintendent Joy Bosfield said a group of men were standing on St Luke Avenue off Buttonwood Avenue, when they were approached by two armed men shortly after 9pm.

Bosfield said the armed men opened fire on the group, all of whom ran.

However, she said two men were shot.

One man succumbed to his injuries at the scene, and the other is in stable condition at hospital.

The deceased is believed to be in his early 20s, Bosfield said.

At the scene yesterday, Bosfield confirmed the multi-million-dollar ShotSpotter technology was used by police to respond to the shooting.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) rolled out the first phase of the new technology in New Providence earlier this year.

The technology is engaged whenever a gunshot is fired anywhere on the island, and provides the police control room and mobile officers with immediate information on where the shot was fired and how many shots were fired.
