NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Buddy Hield will take on four elite shooters in the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) three-point competition during All-Star Weekend.
Hield will join brothers Stephen and Seth Curry, Damian Lillard and Dirk Nowitzki. The three-point contest will take place February 16th on TNT.
Among the five, Stephen and Dirk have already won the 3-point shootout in the past. Nowitzki won it in 2006, while Curry notched the title back in 2014.
Hield, Seth and Lillard will all be making their first-ever appearance in the three-point shootout. Hield is currently averaging a career-high 20.3 points per game for the Sacramento Kings, and shooting 46-per cent from three, which is fourth best in the NBA.
On Sunday, he had 16 points in a 122-108 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. He went 6-17 from the field and 2-7 from behind the three-point line. Los Angeles got off to a fast start. The Clippers shot 52 per cent from the floor in the first half and led by as many as 25 points. The Kings cut their deficit from 16 points to seven in the third. D’Aaron Fox and Iman Shumpert combined to score 15 of Sacramento’s 17 points to start the period. Fox hit a 3-pointer and Shumpert added two from long range.
The Clippers got a 3-pointer from Harris and a dunk by Harrell to lead 87-76 going into the fourth. The Kings begin a season-long, six-game homestand Wednesday against the Atlanta Hawks at Golden 1 centre.
