HG Christie-sponsored vessel sets sail at Montagu regatta

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — HG Christie returned as a lead sponsor of the ‘New Legend’ vessel which competed and placed during last month’s Best of Best Boat Races at Montagu Beach in Nassau.

The country’s largest and oldest real estate firm launched a centennial celebration last year that has seen the company commemorate its founders, its legacy, and its many contributions to the country’s national development; from assisting charitable organizations and groups to its support of Bahamian heritage and cultural events, more specifically, Regattas.

To wind down its centennial celebrations, HG Christie reprised its role as a major supporter of the regatta season.

For the company’s President and Managing Broker John Christie, the art of sailing has long been a major element of his family’s personal history.

HGC CEO poses with the 2nd place overall trophy, which was gifted to him after The ‘New Legend’ participated in the Best of the Best Regatta.

“Sailing has always been a part of the tradition of HG Christie, especially since my father Peter Christie was an avid sailor,” he said.

“We love the sport and have continued to offer to support to sailors and to regattas for as long as we’ve been in business. Our relationship with the New Legend began back in June at the start of the annual regatta season.”

Christie said: “We provided branded gear to the sailing crew of The New Legend and they came out on top as the overall Class A champions in the Long Island Regatta so when we found out they would compete again at ‘Best of the Best’ we were more than happy to support a second time.”

Backed by financial support from HGC and captained by Joshua Knowles, the New Legend—which also proudly sported the HG Christie logo—competed against the country’s best sailors between December 1, and December 4.

“Our goal, whenever we compete is always to work as a team and do our best,” boat co-owner Emile Knowles said.

“I’m very proud of my crew and so happy to have the support of a company like HGC whose donations have helped with the upkeep of the vessel, purchased gear, and helped us perform at our peak”.

In the end, its crew took home the 2nd place overall trophy which they then gifted to the company’s CEO to further mark their 100-year anniversary.

“Receiving this gift from the New Legend is like the icing on the cake of an already incredible year,” said Christie.

“It will continue to serve as a reminder of our commitment to our company’s history and legacy and our ongoing pledge of corporate sponsorship and support now and well into the new year.”
