NASSAU, BAHAMAS — There have been several groundbreaking improvements in medicine as scientists find new ways to prevent and treat HIV and AIDS. One of the most recent developments is the implementation of PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis).
As of September 2024, approximately 4,000 people in The Bahamas are living with HIV, according to the AIDS Foundation.
Dr. Nomad Morgan, a Clinical Medical Officer in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at the Ministry of Health and Wellness, stated that PrEP has been used locally since 2016.
PrEP is a medication provided to individuals at high risk of HIV to help prevent transmission during sexual activity or injection drug use.
