Minister of Education Jeff Lloyd confirmed Tuesday that scholarship payments from the Ministry of Education are delayed.

The issue is a roadblock for hundreds of students who were depending on the money to go to college. Payment cheques are usually distributed in July, according to officials.

However, Lloyd said Tuesday morning that the ministry had to wait on Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) exam results, which were just released, as they determine who gets a scholarship or a grant.

Many students were also not able to qualify for student visas because of the delay.

The issue, he said, is expected to be resolved by the end of the week.
