Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest was on the defense about his 2018/2019 Budget Communication on Thursday, subsequently holding a press conference to further explain it.

When the government slammed the nation with the announcement that value-added tax (VAT) would spike to 12 per cent July 1, Bahamians were concerned and the Opposition Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) chastised the government for being out of touch and incapable of running the country.

But Turnquest said Bahamians will soon see how the VAT increase will pay off.
