NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Businesses along the Gladstone Road corridor are bracing for the impact of road paving works which are scheduled for the next four weeks.
Tecoyo Bridgewater, chief legal officer at Fusion Superplex, said the severity of the impact to business will depend on the extent of the road construction.
“Our information is that this initial four-week repaving process is not the laborious work that the ministry intends as a part of its overall four-lane Gladstone road development project,” he said.
“The caution by the ministry is just to advise motorists of the works hopefully because to prevent access in and out of the area as an ultimate conclusion may be unreasonable.”
He continued: “Of course, even minor road impediments allowing for smooth access is impactful in some way, however, these works are said to be commencing much later in the evening and we would hope that even at those late hour access to our facility and the neighboring businesses such as Bristol, Lakeview and Rubis is not completely blocked.
“Undoubtedly if this were to occur our employees, our customers, our vendors, our revenue, and our overall business would be adversely impacted. This weekend we have new movies and experiences we are assured the viewing public will be anticipating. Many have not yet seen the visual grandeur of Avatar Way of Water and I’m sure they will be lined up to capture all of what it has to offer in IMax cinema.”
Milly Wong, Wong’s Home Centre, said: “As soon as we heard there are road works we became very concerned because it will have an impact on our business. We think the impact will be at least a 30-40 percent decrease by the road work that will be done.
“Because they are making it into a highway we think there will be no turning lanes into our business which will affect customers coming in and out. I think there will be delays. There will always be delays so that is concerning. The road work improvement is good but if they assist in the road design to allow persons to get in and out of businesses easier it would be good.”
