NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Prepare the stage! Turn on the lights! The H.Y.P.E. (Helping Young Performers Excel) dance competition will be coming to a streaming platform near you this Saturday.
The competition was coordinated by Colette Parker, coach for the Bahamas Dance Theatre Competition Team.
The competition will showcase dancers from Bahamas Dance Theatre (Freeport, Grand Bahama) and Pulse Dance Company (Nassau, New Providence).
It is the first of its kind and will feature group dances and solo performances of different styles.
Dancers will be judged by Charles Laroda, Abiola Maycock and headline judge Ballerina Chivvaun Smith. All judges are seasoned in the performing arts field and will give fair and polished critiques to the contestants.
The competition will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 6pm in the Grand Lucayan Ballroom. COVID-19 protocols will be strictly enforced.
Due to limited seating, the event will be livestreamed on the Bahamas Dance Theatre’s Facebook page. Tickets will be sold at the Bahamas Dance Theatre studio.
Competition organizers encouraged the public to support these talented young Bahamians, whether tuning in in-person or online, and encourage them to do something they love.
