PARIS, FRANCE — Hours after withdrawing from the 2024 Paris Olympics competition it’s reported that quarter-miler Steven Gardiner reportedly suffered an “injury” to his ankle, according to his management team.
The 28-year-old was set to compete in the heat of the men’s 400 meters when he withdrew competition.
His management team further stated that he was experiencing discomfort in his ankle and surrounding tendon. Despite his best efforts, he could not overcome the pain.
Gardiner, who won the Olympic title in 2021 in Tokyo joins a list of top Caribbean athletes who will not define their title due to reported injuries.
Meanwhile, Gardiner expressed his thanks to the Bahamian people for their concerns and prayers.
