Gardiner clocks 44.14 ahead of World Championships

Bahamian national record holder Steven Gardiner turned in a strong performance in Poland over the weekend, winning the 400 meters (m) at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in 44.14 seconds.

Gardiner’s time is the third-fastest clocked in the world this year.

Gardiner said he dedicated Saturday’s race to the people Abaco who suffered through Category 5 storm Hurricane Dorian earlier this month. Gardiner, who hails from Moore’s Island, joins Americans Fred Kerley (43.64) and Michael Norman (43.45) as favorites to win it all at the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) World Championships this month in Doha.

The 17th edition of the World Championships begin on September 28.
