It will be another two weeks before former Senator, Frank Smith, gets his day in court as prosecutors claim they need more time to review bank statements.

Prosecutors told Magistrate, Joyann Ferguson Pratt, this morning that they’re still waiting to receive those documents.

Smith’s attorney, Keith Knight, argued that the prosecution had promised their documents had been ready since December and that the new request to hold off on the case for two more weeks is a matter of misconduct on the prosecution’s behalf.

But the judge turned down Knight’s submission and granted the two-week request.

Smith is accused of extorting $60,000 from owner of Magic Touch Cleaning Company, Barbara Hanna, after he allegedly assisted her in obtaining a contract to clean the Critical Care Unit of the Princess Margaret Hospital during his time as Chairman of the Public Hospital’s Authority.

The case will now resume on May 14 and 18.
