Foundation that promotes access to clean water in Grand Bahama boosted by donation

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — In the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian, which compromised the freshwater supply on Grand Bahama, the Grand Bahama Emergency Water Relief Foundation stepped in to provide clean and safe drinking water to thousands. Now, the Foundation has received a significant financial donation from Bahamian Brewery & Beverage Company, the producers of locally made Sands Beer.
The Foundation, commonly referred to as the Rotary Water Plant and with the assistance of dedicated corporate sponsors and benefactors, has been able to continually meet its mandate since 2-19 to provide clean drinking water for the island’s various communities free of charge.
Bahamian Brewery, which was also severely impacted by Dorian, donated the proceeds from a special #BahamasStrong t-shirt campaign to assist the Rotary Water Plant.
“We made this commitment and promised to support Rotary Water Projects and now we’re happy to make good on that promise,” noted BBB General Manager Gary Sands.  “After ensuring all of our staff in the hurricane-affected islands were safe, our priority was getting the brewery up and running again. The brewery represents jobs.
“We knew it would be a long road to re-opening so we created the #BahamasStrong t-shirts to sell in the meantime. Even though there was no Sands Beer being produced we wanted to give people a way to show their faith in the brand. We also wanted to use that momentum to help Rotary who do so much for our communities year-round,” Sands explained.
“We are very thankful for the generous donation from the Bahamian Brewery,” Stafford said, receiving a check valued at one thousand five hundred dollars from Clayton Russell, Bahamian Brewery Assistant General Manager in Grand Bahama.
“This generous donation will help us in our maintenance and upkeep of supplies to continue to be ready, willing, and able to distribute fresh drinking water free of charge in the event that the natural supply is interrupted.”
