First Junkanoo Beer Fest set for Dec. 1

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Junkanoo fans who are eager to experience the pulsating sounds of whistles and goat skin drums, won’t have to wait until Boxing Day as Commonwealth Brewery Limited will kick off the month of December with its first annual Junkanoo Beer Fest.

Commonwealth Brewery Limited held a press on Tuesday with representatives of the major junkanoo groups, to launch the first annual Junkanoo Beer Fest, scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1

The highly anticipated event will allow groups to prepare for the ultimate showdown on Bay while Commonwealth Brewery plans to promote its long-time sponsor, Kalik beer.

Members of the different junkanoo groups are encouraging Bahamians to show their support on Dec. 1, and make the first annual Junkanoo Beer Fest a success.

“Kalik is the number one beer of The Bahamas and it is world renowned. Its name will always be linked to junkanoo,” said Dennis Hannah, CBL’s Director of Corporate Relations.

Kalik supports junkanoo throughout the year with fundraisers, at junkanoo practices, and they have also been a major sponsor of the Boxing Day parade for many years.

CBL is encouraging persons who are 18 and older to come out on Dec. 1 and be prepared to “rep”your favourite junkanoo group upon entry.

The funds from this first annual Junkanoo beer fest will go to the group of the supporter’s choice, along with a $2500 donation from Kalik to each participating group.

The fans also have the opportunity to interact with group members while assisting them with raising funds.

“The goal is to kick off the holiday experience and keep Bahamians enthused from the month’s inception,” a Kalik brand manager said.
