Eight injured in Exuma boating accident

STANIEL CAY, EXUMA — Eight people were injured when a vessel collided with a rock in the Exumas shortly before 7pm on Monday.

According to police, a cream-colored vessel with twin engines was traveling north from Black Point towards Little Leaf Cay when the vessel collided with a rock on the southern point of Staniel Cay.

Three men and five women received injuries

“The injured were all taken to the local clinic for medical assistance where three (3) people were treated and discharged,” read a police statement.

“The remaining five victims, inclusive of a male and four females, were airlifted and taken to the capital for further medical assistance. Investigations continue.”

Meanwhile, police are also investigating a fire that damaged two vessels moored at a local Marina in George Town.

The fire was reported shortly before 1pm on Tuesday and extensively damaged a 66-ft Sports Fishing Boat and a 55-ft Catamaran.

“At present police are uncertain of the circumstances surrounding the fire; however, a team of officers from the Fire Services Department New Providence will travel to Exuma to assist with the investigations,” the police statement read.
