Eight injured in Exuma boat crash

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Eight people were injured in a boat accident in the area of Buck Cay, Exuma, on Saturday.

According to police, the vessel was carrying 22 people – three crew members and 19 passengers – when it collided with a reef shortly after 8 pm.

The passengers and crew were assisted to the mainland by other boaters and the injured were transported to the hospital.

In a statement, police said five men and three women were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The vessel was reportedly discovered partially submerged underwater, and an investigation has been launched into the incident.

In a Facebook post, Exuma MP Chester Cooper advised that all passengers have been accounted for.

Cooper said the most serious injury was a broken leg.

New Providence and Abaco remain on 24-hour lockdown, as the country continues to grapple with increasing COVID-19 cases.

Restrictions on Grand Bahama and other Family Islands have been rolled back.
