Lee University freshman standout Sierra Donaldson was awarded for her strong play on the clay court this week.

On Thursday, she was named as the Gulf South Conference Women’s Tennis Freshman of the week. Donaldson earned the award for going 4-0 last week in matches against West Georgia and Mississippi College.

In singles play, Donaldson trumped Bailey McCammon, from West Georgia, 6-1, 6-1, and finished the week with a 7-6, 2-6, win at No.49 Mississippi College. In doubles action, she teamed up with Lauren Trammell. The pair picked up a 6-0 win at West Georgia and 6-1 against Mississippi.

“It’s an honor to be named freshman of the week,” Donaldson said about the award. “I’m really proud of my team and how we have been playing recently. My first year of college has been a great experience filled with opportunities. It has also been full of new experiences. It’s helping me to develop into a stronger player and teammate.

“I’m happy that I am able to represent both Lee University and The Bahamas in a positive way.”

Donaldson will travel to Peru this weekend with The Bahamas women’s Fed Cup team. Other members of the team include Kerrie Cartwright (player/coach), Danielle Thompson and Sydney Clarke.
