Health officials are considering revisiting the discussion of abortion being legalised in The Bahamas.
Abortions are illegal in The Bahamas unless it is a matter of life or death for the mother.
Health Minister Dr. Duane Sands said recently, while the country moves forward with the discussion on marijuana and women’s rights, a woman’s right to choose abortion should be included in that discussion.
He said, while some conservatives may disagree, it’s now time to have real open, honest discussions about family planning, which includes the conversation of abortion, as well as providing condoms and contraception and having access to real sex education in the schools.
