Statistics show that 43, 000 Bahamians live below the poverty line, surviving on less than four dollars daily, according to one local charity, which in an attempt to bring greater awareness to the issue, embarked on a challenge to commemorate World Hunger Day, May 28th, 2018.
Hands for Hunger launched its ‘Dine on The Line,’ challenge which invites Bahamians to dine on a budget of $4 daily until March 31.
There are 150 people currently registered for this year’s challenge.
Hands for Hunger launched in 2008 with a focus on the elimination of unnecessary hunger and the reduction of food waste.
The local food rescue organization partners with local food donors to collect fresh surplus food daily. It delivers those goods to donor agencies who then feed those who live on or below the poverty line.
