Corrections Officer in custody for drug possession

A corrections officer is in police custody after he was allegedly caught attempting to smuggle marijuana into The Bahamas Department of Correctional Services on Wednesday, April 3, 2019.

According to police reports, shortly before 2:00p.m. on Wednesday, Drug Enforcement Unit Officers along with Bahamas Department of Corrections Officers in a joint operation, conducted a search of a male Prison Officer and discovered six packages of marijuana taped to his body.

The man was taken into custody and is expected to be formally charged before a magistrate court.

The drugs weighted one pound and 11 ounces and had a street value of  $1,000.
