NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Commissioner of Police Paul Rolle confirmed today that police were on the hunt for a man wanted in connection with the murder of a mother and her daughter hours before they were killed.

According to reports, 30-year-old Alicia Sawyer, and eight-year-old Asria Ednique Wallace were found dead in their Stark Street, Nassau Village, home on Monday.

Police said the motive for the killings was unclear, but based on initial evidence, it appeared to be domestic.

Speaking to reporters following a series of initiatives to mark Commissioner’s Outreach Day, Rolle confirmed the woman had filed a report with police, identifying the suspect, the day before she was found dead.

“The protection is to try and catch the culprit and on that night when the incident happened, we had several units all over the city trying to find this culprit and in the midst of that…we suspect he returned and then we have which took place, which is sad,” Rolle said.

He indicated that police units were out “all night” in search of the suspect.

“At the time when we found him, unfortunately, this woman was already found dead,” he added.

Rolle explained that police are typically able to intervene in domestic matters faster when two people live together, but this incident was not the case.

He said: “When you have two persons in the home, one abused the other, we separate them and then we can get social services involved and get a court order.”

The murders come a week after seven-year-old Reyes Williams, a Thelma Gibson Primary School student, was shot and killed during a drive-by shooting on Esmeralda Avenue and Alexander Boulevard, Nassau Village.
