Consolidated Water Ltd continues with regionally low rates and high quality

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Consolidated Water (Bahamas) Ltd (CWCO) has supplied the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) with drinking water for distribution to WSC customers across New Providence for over two decades.

With industry best practices in place, CWCO provides this essential service at one of the lowest-priced rates in the region.

In recognition of World Water Day, CWCO General Manager Bryan Russell made this disclosure and underscored the company’s track record during a recent Rotary Club of South East Nassau presentation titled “Sustainable Fresh Water Production”.

“I am very pleased and proud to say that we supply the Water and Sewerage Corporation with water on a continuous basis. We operate our facilities every day of the year, 24-hours a day, even during hurricanes as we have backup power if necessary,” said Russell.

In 2020, CWCO produced nearly 3.5 billion gallons of water and sold it to WSC at the average cost of under $6 per US 1,000 gallons.

Russell underscored: “That is perhaps the cheapest water rates we know about within this region. It is cheaper than any of the other facilities that Consolidated Water operates.”

Regardless of noteworthy low rates, CWCO maintains strict quality guidelines in the production of water. The seawater reverse osmosis water supplier is able to do this because of the technology it utilizes, its scale of production and the design of its supply contracts.

The service and supply contracts that Consolidated Water (Bahamas) Ltd has with WSC are “stringent”, according to Russell.

“Not only do they guarantee a very high quality of water to the WSC and to the local population, but it also forces the company to maintain the operations of our equipment to the highest standards,” he said.

CWCO analyzes, sterilizes and overall ensures water meets specifics that are set down not only by the World Health Organization (WHO), but WSC, whose representatives have access to CWCO’s facilities at any day and time.

Prior to Consolidated Water (Bahamas) Ltd’s operations, all water distributed on New Providence came from the island’s wellfields or was barged from wellfields on Andros.

With the expansion of CWCO’s Blue Hills facility in 2012, the need to barge water has been mitigated. By operating seawater reverse osmosis water plants and being energy-efficient, Consolidated Water (Bahamas) Ltd has been able to meet increased water demands.

To date, CWCO and the WSC continue to work closely together to develop solutions to improve the availability of potable water to residents.

Russell underscored that “Consolidated Water (Bahamas) Ltd is very fortunate to have a great, superb relationship with the Water and Sewerage Corporation” and “we value our partnership”.

Consolidated Water (Bahamas) Ltd has 20 employees — 19 of whom are Bahamian. The company, over the years, has regularly supported various community initiatives such as those carried out by Lend A Hand Bahamas. CWCO has also donated to Bahamas Special Olympics, SWIFT Athletics, the Royal Bahamas Police Force Dependents’ Trust, as well as to public school seminars and competitions.
