Donte Armbrister advances to doubles semifinals
NASSAU, BAHAMAS- Sydney Clarke advanced into the finals of the singles and doubles at the U-18 International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament in Antigua and Barbuda.
Clarke defeated Canadian Hana Gamracy in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. Clarke, who came into the tournament as the No.1 seed, will take on No. 2 seed Jennifer Kida today in the singles title match.
In doubles action, Clarke and her partner American Sifa Butcher defeated the team of Natalia Perez, from Puerto Rico, and American Madison Smith in straight sets to advance to today’s final.
On the boy’s side, Donte Armbrister lost in the semifinal round to American Ellis Short. Armbrister went to three sets for the third time in the tournament. Donte won the first set 7-6, and 16-14 in the tiebreak. However, the next two sets went in Short’s favor.
Armbrister did manage to qualify for the semifinals in the boys doubles with his partner Freddie Ridout, from Great Britain. They defeated the Japanese duo of Kai Hitmi and Ryoma Mishiro.
If they advance they will have an opportunity to win back to back doubles titles.
