Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise’s annual charity golf tournament continues to make an impact
NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise (RCNS) will once again play host to its Sunrise Open Golf Tournament, currently scheduled to be held on tomorrow, August 7, 2021, at the Royal Blue Golf Course, Baha Mar.
As a result of the twin impacts of Hurricane Dorian and the economic impact of the COVID-19 virus, the needs of families and individuals have greatly increased, causing the club to aggressively pursue its mandate to “serve to change lives”, in keeping with its 2021-2022 Rotary International theme.
“We are overwhelmed by the support we have received from corporate and community partners,” said Dr Sophia Rolle, tournament director. “We have not only attracted avid golfers but also organizations that want to serve our communities.”
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and protocols, the teams of golfers have been limited. As a result, the Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise has opened a second round of the tournament on Sunday, September 5, 2021, to accommodate more golfers and those who may want to improve their chances of winning fabulous prizes.
The proceeds will aid the ongoing community service projects of the club. Specifically, this year’s areas of focus are:
- Launch of a visual arts summer program in conjunction with Lend a Hand Bahamas, exposing more than 30 school-aged children to the orange economy.
- Hosting a second annual toy drive, bringing joy to more than 700 underprivileged kids.
- Launch of a 10-month Read and Feed program providing a hot meal and literacy
opportunities to more than 2,500 at-risk youth. - Improving access to potable water at senior care facilities via installation of solar
water heaters in conjunction with the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employer’s
Confederation.
The club recently made a donation to Willard Patton Primary School in support of its literacy program for students with varying disabilities.
