CG Atlantic introduces new community garden, hosts ‘Field to Fork’ event in Grand Bahama

FREEPORT, GRAND BAHAMA — CG Atlantic Medical and Life, in partnership with its Zest Wellness Programme, announced the launch of a new community garden at its recently introduced office, CG Freeport, and the successful hosting of its ‘Field to Fork’ event.

This initiative, aimed at promoting healthy living and sustainability, is now the second of its kind, following the first garden and ‘Field to Fork’ event at Atlantic House in Nassau.

The newly established garden was officially opened by the Prime Minister during a ceremony at the CG Freeport office on April 18, 2024. It is reportedly already yielding an abundant harvest of kale, tomatoes, peppers, and herbs.

“It is our belief that creating more community gardens across the islands of The Bahamas has the potential to significantly impact the health of Bahamians for years to come,” shared Annastasia Francis, General Manager of CG Atlantic Medical & Life. “We are thrilled to now  have two CG Atlantic gardens to better serve our communities.”

The ‘Field to Fork’ event, initially launched in Nassau in 2022, aims to educate staff and clients on harvesting produce and preparing meals with fresh garden crops. Due to its success, the Zest Wellness team, guided by Prince Blyden, Corporate Wellness Coordinator at CG Atlantic Medical & Life, brought this event to Grand Bahama.

Participants in this year’s Grand Bahama ‘Field to Fork’ event received hands-on instruction from Greenlight Tropical Farm and Lignum Vitae Market, learning how to hand-pick their produce and incorporate it into vegan-based meals. This educational approach aims to demonstrate that growing and harvesting vegetables can be easy, making healthy eating a regular practice within households.

Shaquan Kemp, a CG Atlantic employee, commented on the initiative: “It is refreshing to see a garden right outside our office. I was happy to have the opportunity to partake in the harvest, which I was able to share with my mom, making the experience even better!”

CG Atlantic remains dedicated to promoting community initiatives such as these. The new garden space at the CG Freeport office, coupled with the ‘Field to Fork’ event, underscores CG Atlantic Medical &  Life’s commitment to supporting the health and well-being of both Nassau and Grand Bahama clients and staff. The goal is to inspire Bahamians to make healthier choices and positively change the health paradigms currently experienced.
